You Are Royalty
“Mephibosheth bowed respectfully and exclaimed, “Who is your servant, that you should show such kindness to a dead dog like me?” 2 Samuel 9:8
This verse shows us how insignificant Mephibosheth thinks of himself, he had such a negative self-image of himself even though he was a descendant of the first king of Israel. He focused rather on his unfortunate circumstances, instead of the truth about who he really was.
How often do we get overwhelmed by happenings around us and allow them to dictate our realities? We often are so minimal in our expectations and respond to good news with hesitation like Mephibosheth? Hesitant that there is a catch involved, or uneasy, expecting something to go wrong instead of praising God in excitement at what He is set to do.
It’s hard not to be cautious when we have had bad experiences in the past, like Mephibosheth who didn’t just lose his grandfather – the king, he also lost his dear father – a noble prince and brave warrior!
Yet, it is time we embrace our true reality which is to see ourselves as God sees us, and know that He is right by us and ready to help us.
We need to daily hold on to Isaiah 41 especially verses 9-10 which tells us that the Lord is our strength and help. “I have called you back from the ends of the earth, saying, ‘You are my servant.’ For I have chosen you and will not throw you away. Don’t be afraid, for I am with you. Don’t be discouraged, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you. I will hold you up with my victorious right hand.”
“But you are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, God’s special possession, that you may declare the praises of him who called you out of darkness into his wonderful light.” 1 Peter 2:9
