Your Chance To Depend on God
“But the Lord has been my stronghold, and my God the rock of my refuge.” Psalm 94:22
Have you ever felt like life would be a lot easier, “if only you had more money, or if you were living in some other country or if you were some years younger, or if you could just be slimmer, etc?”
We often look for hope in so many places, but as followers of Jesus, there is only one true Hope: the Lord himself.
We can learn this from Moses. God sent Moses to Egypt and charged him with leading the Israelites out of slavery and to the Promised Land. In Exodus 5, we learn that the encounter Moses had with Pharaoh was a disaster! Not only did Pharaoh mock Moses and the Lord, but he also doubled the workload of the Israelite slaves who thereafter turned on Moses in anger.
And what did Moses do? He didn’t go around wishing he wasn’t called by God or that he had another assignment. No, the Bible says Moses returned to the Lord. Exodus 5:22.
And God listened to him and answered. He said, “Now you will see what I will do to Pharaoh: Because of my mighty hand he will let them go; because of my mighty hand he will drive them out of his country”. Exodus 6:1
If Moses had met success on his first visit to Pharaoh, he and all Israel would most likely have congratulated themselves! God wanted Moses, the Israelites and the Egyptians to know, beyond question, that He was the mover and shaker in the great deliverance.
The difficulties were only a means of creating utter dependence on God.
The lesson here, therefore, is that the unpleasant or uncomfortable situation should send us back to Jesus. It’s our chance to depend on Him more and see His great deliverance.
“For I am the Lord your God, who upholds your right hand, Who says to you, ‘Do not fear, I will help you.’” Isaiah 41:13
