Your Will Be Done
“Also I heard the voice of the Lord, saying, Whom shall I send, and who will go for us? Then said I, Here am I; send me.” Isaiah 6:8
After his conversion, Paul spent almost 10 years of his life in obscurity. Some will think that’s an absolute waste of time especially because he already had a remarkable encounter with God on the road to Damascus, the kind of personal testimony that would draw crowds. So you would expect that he was immediately set for large crusades and ministrations back to back.
But that wasn’t God’s plan. Paul spent 3 years in the desert and the next 7 years of his life making tents back in his home town, Tarsus. He didn’t write books, neither did he teach or lecture. He sewed canvas and made tents. God was remaking the man into someone He could use.
So when Paul cried out, “Lord, what will you have me do?” he wasn’t asking for options. He didn’t fill his own schedule and ask God to ratify it. He left the schedule blank for God to fill but he signed his commitment on the bottom line. The issue was settled. He was saying, God, I am ready to do whatever you will have me do.
You may have thought, “If we really commit ourselves to Jesus Christ, we can start looking for the spotlight and God will do something great with us!” But the reality is that, when we commit to God, we let go of our own dreams and aspirations, and we say to the Lord, “Here I am Lord, use me as you desire and for your own glory”
“I can of mine own self do nothing: as I hear, I judge: and my judgment is just; because I seek not mine own will, but the will of the Father which hath sent me.” John 5:30
